Chapter 1072: Warrant for Arrest

Dusk.

With the exception restaurants that were still insisting on business, shops were closing one after another. Amazing Fate Pet Shop was no exception.

After the store employees cleaned up and arranged everything back to where it was supposed to be, they started to leave in groups.

After dinner, people from all stages of life went out for a walk. They had spent the majority of winter and spring in their homes, but the temperature was finally comfortable and there were no mosquitoes. The weather was nice enough to walk in.

It was not just humans enjoying the nice weather––even nocturnal animals began to wander about.

Although Binhai City was urban and a medium-sized city, there were still many animals that liked to move around at night. At night, dogs out for walks with their humans would often encounter such animals. They would suddenly get excited and rush in a certain direction, then bark at the grass or at flower beds. If one were to pull apart the grass and leaves, they would often find some small animals shaking, such as hedgehogs, squirrels, and wild rabbits.

Of course, the kinds of dogs with that sort of ability were small to large-sized hunting dogs. Small dogs like chihuahuas and pomeranians could not be counted on to do that.

Not far from the Amazing Fate Pet Shop, two acquaintances met outside and began to talk. One of them had an adult golden retriever that was not on a leash. After all, there were few cases of golden retrievers biting people. During their enthusiastic conversation, the golden retriever smelled something and ran down an alleyway.

During the Spring Festival, it was said that there were people stealing dogs from around there. The owner of the dog anxiously started to shout at it, but the excited golden retriever ignored his master’s shout. He plunged into the alley and snorted at a stray kitten that was hidden in a corner.

The golden retriever was considered a treasure of the dogs, but the blood of the hunting dog ran through its body. It was very aggressive to small animals. If the owner pulled on it, it was still all right, but if it was free to roam about, then it often brought back surprises to its owner.

At that moment, the golden retriever was staring at the yellow and white kitten and continuously howling, pondering what sort of posture he should use to use to grab the cat. He wanted to gift it to his owner. Of course, it was not as gentle as a mother cat.

The strange thing was, the yellow and white cat did not show any fear. It just looked at it once, then tried to leap onto the wall.

The golden retriever was about to open his mouth to bite it, when suddenly the direction of the wind changed. He raised his head and looked up, only to see a dozen full moon-like eyes shining upon the wall, staring down at his movements. If they were somewhere else, he would have thought that some ancient god had been revived.

The owner arrived in the alleyway, only for the golden retreiever to run by, whimpering with his tail between his legs. He circled around his owner’s legs to ask for comfort.

The owner was confused. He did not know what kind of situation it had met, but upon seeing the dark alley, he decided to not try to find out. After all, curiosity killed the cat.

Hundreds of stray cats were gathered on the roofs of the cottages and two-story buildings in the area. Normally, they would have been noisy, but at that time they were unusually quiet and hardly heard, even by the inhabitants under the roof.

Vladimir looked at the faces of the representatives of the stray cats. Every time there was a meeting, there was an increase in the number of unfamiliar, new faces. That meant that the power and strength of the stray cats was increasing again.

The fire of the cats was setting the prairie ablaze.

However, with the expansion of the sphere of influence, communication problems had caused serious bottlenecks. They could only double the number of cats who communicated and try their best to maintain the smooth flow of information.

“I want to tell everyone something,” Vladimir opened its mouth and said, “I have a friend––a national fighter that feels for the situation of stray cats. They have been met with very unfair treatment!”

The stray cats listened quietly. Pairs of eyes flashed in the dark––sometimes bright, sometimes dark.

“A reactionary academic authority launched a despicable insult and attack on my friend. It was not only an offense to my friend, but also a provocation to all stray cats!” it gripped a forepaw and said angrily.

The stray cats straightened up their bodies and angry flames burned in their eyes. They complained about the suffering of their brothers.

Vladimir waved his front paw passionately. “I’m now officially issuing the highest warrant for arrest! Please sufficiently mobilize the stray cats under your leadership and maximize their ability to collect information. Even if you dig three feet, you need to bring this reactionary academic authority out to me!”

The stray cats were so angry that they broke the silence that they had kept for so long. They called for battle one after another.

The family that was watching television below them heard sounds coming from the rooftop and muttered, “Spring is over, and the cats are still making noise.” After that, they increased the volume of their television like nothing was happening.

Vladimir nodded in satisfaction and waited for the cats to vent their emotions and calm down a little. It said, “The focus of this work should be on big cities such as Guangzhou and Shenzhen in the north. According to my estimation, reactionary academic authorities like that live in big cities and lead a decadent life as they exploit their class’s extravagant desires.”

Several cats that were as light as a sparrow nodded their heads, indicating that they would be responsible for conveying the matter to Meow Meow Branch Organizations in big cities.

“In addition, the stray cats in other areas should not relax their vigilance. After all, the world is not absolute. Our root is in small and medium-sized cities and rural areas. The basic principle of rural areas encircling the city cannot be shaken!” Vladimir added.

Some representatives of stray cats asked, “What is the reactionary academic authority and what does it look like? Is it as grim as a pitbull? Is it wearing a gold chain around its neck? Does it have tattoos on its body, and a knife too? Who will cut everyone when it comes out of the BMW?”

They needed a target. If they did not know what the person looked like, it would have been like finding a needle in the haystack.

Vladimir shook its head. “It’s not that simple. The enemy is sly, and is good at acting. They are very good at hiding and cheating. They will not easily slip up and give out their location.”

It recalled the pictures it saw on the computer screen and described him. “The old man is very old, tall, and thin, and has a good appearance. I have seen several pictures of him wearing old-fashioned, traditional clothes… What is old-fashioned, traditional clothing? Well… Anyway, it’s different from what young people wear! Any other questions?”

If it could give each stray cat a picture, it would have… But that was impossible. It could only increase the size of the net, and search out every possible suspicious character.

The stray cats became quiet again; there were no other questions.

“Good!” Vladimir smiled in satisfaction, then his eyes shone with a cold light. “Now it’s time to discuss the Holy Cat Statue. It’s time for us to catch fish in the far-reaching net! For all the cats in the Five Ridges of Tianlian, the earth moves and the three rivers move as the cat paw shakes. If one asks where the statue is going, then the candles of the paper boat will burn in the sky to show the way!”

It was almost midnight.

The bustling of Binhai City had finally started to settle down.

The people who still had to study or go to work the next day showered, brushed their teeth, scrolled through their social media on their phones in their beds, and finally put their phones down reluctantly to sleep.

The hermits sat before their computers, fighting their own intense battles, faces shining with oil. The night was still young for them.

The people doing night shifts yawned, fighting the sleep bug.

But for another group of people, the night was just beginning.

Zoom!

Zoom!

In a certain building on a nearby street, the residents were already on their merry way to dreamland, but they were rudely shaken awake by the loud noise. They turned over in bed in frustration, muffling their ears with their pillows, and muttered under their breath, “The rich kids are racing the streets in their sports cars again! They seriously have issues!”

Yup, who knew where these rich kids had come from—there might have been another group of people nearby who were forced out of their homes and received a huge sum of money in compensation, making them rich overnight. They made use of the late night, when traffic police were not around and there were few cars on the street, to race cars, and they rammed their accelerators to the maximum. Some of them had even modified their cars, changing up their mufflers to make the sound even more piercingly annoying then it had been previously.

They were just rich kids in the lowest sense. Their sports cars were just the entry-level, $1- to $2-million sports cars. But they were still unattainable for most normal people.

They might have watched too many movies or played too many games, coupled with having too much spare cash on their hands. They had gathered here like flies on this long, wide, straight road, racing their new sports cars, turning their music to the maximum volume, howling in excitement occasionally. They didn’t have much in terms of driving skills. They only knew how to step on the accelerator to gain speed, getting a sense of satisfaction and burning away their adrenaline.

The people who lived nearby were all troubled by it, often getting rudely woken up right as they are about to fall asleep. They could probably still deal with it if it were winter or spring, when they closed their windows at night to sleep. But with spring transitioning into summer, everyone had their windows open during the night to enjoy the nice temperatures, and the noise was just intolerable. Some people with heart issues might have even been shocked by the sudden burst of noise, their pulses accelerating suddenly, and the students preparing for examinations had it extremely tough too.

The residents had conveyed the issue to the relevant authorities, but there had been no signs of the situation improving at all. The rich kids were always out in the middle of the night, but they didn’t show up every night, and it wouldn’t be possible for the traffic police to wait here every day until the night. Besides, they would always send a few people to drive by normally and survey the area before their races, and if they saw traffic police, they would either move elsewhere or change their date.

“Do you know what this is called? This is guerilla warfare!”

After racing back and forth several times, the rich kids gathered all their cars in a circle along the empty roadside. They sat on the hoods of their cars and discussed their races loudly, expressing how satisfying they were.

One of them had a baseball cap on, worn skewed to the side, and a black-and-white-striped leather jacket. He had a can of beer in his left hand and his soft girlfriend in his right. He exclaimed loudly to the others. From his looks, he seemed to be in his early twenties, but you could see signs of his endeavors on his face.

“To retreat if they advance, to disrupt if they rest, to attack if they’re tired, to chase if they retreat! If the police come after us, we run. Our car license plates are all fake anyway, and their cars can’t catch up to us. If the police are here, we’ll change places. If they’re tired and retreat, then this will be our territory! Those stupid police can’t do anything about us anyway!”

He showed off his knowledge to the other rich kids, getting a wave of admiration from them.

“Boss is so amazing to even know about this!”

“Boss doesn’t just have amazing driving skills. He knows a lot of things too!”

“Ha! I asked you bunch of brats to not only think of women. You should study more. If you study more, women will automatically come to you, just like my baby here. She loves hearing my talk!”

The rich kid with the baseball cap laughed loudly. His right hand pinched at his girlfriend’s waist, eliciting a filthy moan as she snuggled into his hold again.

They say that in the world of the blind, the cyclops is king. Even though he was only a high school graduate, amongst this group of people who on average were middle school dropouts, he was shockingly smart.

As the laughter died down, someone asked him cheekily, “Boss, where are we going next? To run a few more rounds? Or should we go to karaoke and see if we can pick up any drunk chicks?”

“Let’s go a few more rounds!” Another person patted the Porsche 911 beneath his butt. “I didn’t have energy early on, and I didn’t step on the accelerator fully, but this time I definitely won’t lose!”

“Tch! Stop lying, you pussy!” the others shouted at him.

“I’m sleepy. Let’s get a room,” the girlfriend yawned, whispering to the baseball hat kid.

He had long since had a fire burning deep in him for his girlfriend, unsatisfied with just touching and kneading at her and wanting to satiate that fire by getting a room. But his ego was too inflated for him to be okay with the other rich kids looking down on him.

As he was hesitating, there was a sudden burst of snickering from the darkness not too far away.

“Who? Who the f*ck’s laughing?”

The kid thought that someone was laughing at him. He knew his own skills. He could show off in front of these stupid followers, but it wouldn’t look good on him if anyone else heard him.

The laughter was soft and disappeared after a short period of time.

The other kids had stopped their laughing, asking, “What… What is it?”

“Not talking about you guys! Didn’t you guys hear someone laughing earlier?” the baseball-hat rich kid said.

The rest of them regarded each other. They hadn’t been paying attention at all.

“No, I hadn’t heard anything.”

“Someone’s laughing? Boss, did you hear wrongly? It’s already so late, and there aren’t many people around here…”

“What about you? Did you hear anything?” The kid squeezed the girlfriend in his arms again.

She was so tuckered out she could barely open her eyes, and she shook her head.

“Tsk! You just take a nap in the car. I’ll be back soon.” He threw away the beer bottle, leaving his girlfriend in the sports car. He closed the door and stomped in the direction of the laughter, the alcohol acting as liquid courage.

“Boss, what are you doing?” the others asked.

“I drank too much, so I’m going to pee! And to see who dared to laugh at me!” he said without even turning back.

“Wait! I’m coming too!”

“Boss, you didn’t do it too much and get weak kidneys, right?”

“Hahaha!”

“Shut up!”

Almost all of the kids came over, some of them wanting to pee, some of them wanting to burn off extra energy, and some of them just going to support the others.

Even though the night was late, they were all young men, gaining confidence in numbers. There wasn’t much they were afraid of.

If any one of them were to raise their head now, they would find a cat, but not a cat, sitting on a three-story building nearby, shining brightly like metal under the moonlight.
